Tzimmes

(pronounced tsi'- mes)

By donation.

Tzimmes is a Yiddish word for a sweet culinary concoction considered to be the perfect complement to the main course of a Jewish feast. In another, more humorous connection, Jewish people are warned not to complicate a simple matter, with the adage: "Don't make me a big tzimmes!"

Original in concept and sound, Tzimmes had its beginnings in Victoria, BC and has played for enthusiastic audiences within and outside the Jewish community for over 20 years. Their songs range in style from European Klezmer to Mid-Eastern Sephardi to North American Folk, with strong vocals in several languages: Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino, and English.

The concert trio consists of: Moshe Denburg (vocals and guitar), Yona Bar-Sever (bass, guitar and hand percussion), and Saul Berson (saxophone, clarinet and flute).

Tzimmes is at the forefront of the multi-faceted approach to Jewish music making today.
