Nature's Embrace
by Eileen Fong

March 4-31, 2011

Opening Reception
Sunday, March 6, 2011
1pm-3pm with Guest of Honor, Richard Lee (MLA)
In the Hall of One Hundred Rivers

Internationally recognized artist Eileen Fong combines Chinese brush painting techniques with acrylic paint to create locally-inspired scenes of life.

A native of China and Hong Kong, Eileen began studying Chinese painting after immigrating to Canada and working as a medical technologist. She has exhibited throughout North America and internationally over the past 17 years, creating a bridge in her artwork between Eastern techniques and local scenes.

In 2007, she illustrated the children’s book The Dream Jar published by Tutkam Books. Having lived in Canada for most of her life, Eileen says:

“The compositions are based on combination of actual scenes with imagination. I use the principal of Chinese brush painting for the composition on rice paper. I then mount it onto canvas and apply acrylic paint. I enjoy the spontaneous calligraphic expression of Chinese brushstroke painting and the flexibility of the acrylic medium. This blending of techniques was developed through my exploration of water-based art.”
